Top reasons why people fail as online entrepreneurs.
1. They don’t build a business plan
Starting up a new business is never an easy task and should never be done in any kind of rush. Coming out with a new business idea can be done from one day to another, from one minute to the next one, sometimes you just have to think for a while, talk to someone, watch a documentary or a movie to discover a brilliant business idea. Next thing to do is to take the time to build a powerful step-by-step plan covering every single detail of the idea and, if you are not sure you can do that, it’s ok to have someone help you. With that done, now you have more than just an idea, you have a clear business plan telling you exactly where and how to start, what you need to start and where you can find what you need. We all have seen many entrepreneurs either online or offline fail, just because they missed this small step. They discover an idea or came across a business opportunity, have the money to invest, without looking back they throw themselves in, and next thing you know, things don’t work out the way they were expecting them, and end up as a failure.
Never rush in the process of planning otherwise you will skip important details that might cost more than you can imagine.
2. They get involved in too many things at the same time
Not a lot of people have the capacity to handle more than one thing at a time. Especially when this last one requires plenty of concentration and creativity. Sometimes it can be hard to make sure that one thing is working the way you want it to. Mostly when it comes to business, it’s not always easy to come out with adequate solutions to critical situations your business might be confronting. Especially in this competitive business world today, where we have to be all time proactive and innovative. So now imagine that you are running more than one thing at the same time, and you need to focus on every one of them, we understand here that’s it’s no easy task. I’m not saying that people shouldn’t get involved in more than once business at once, but we need to understand here that it would be more reasonable to set them up one a time, then after you have your business up and running, you can start considering getting involved in something else.
Many are those who make this mistake, when you get involved in to many things, you are more like to loose interest in what actually could have worked out perfectly if only you had been willing to put a little bit more energy and time into it.
3. They lack of steadiness
A few years ago, I read somewhere: ’’steadiness is the key to success”. But most entrepreneurs don’t know how to remain steady. They expect their investment to fully start giving results the next day. They try an opportunity for a few weeks, sometimes months, then not satisfied with the results, move on to the next open spot. Every business takes some time before they become successful. This time frame might vary according to the business type and market place. We all have witnessed small businesses become wealthy within just a few months, but keep it mind that those are exceptions to the rule.
In the growing process, I think that a business should be literally compared to a baby who has to crawl before he walks, and walk before he runs. Don’t give up too soon, let the process take its time.
4. They don’t follow up with costumers
Everyone likes to feel important.
Nothing makes a costumer feel better than seeing a service provider or product seller show interest in either he/she was satisfied with a product or service whatsoever that they paid for. Follow up with your buyers and make them feel that they are important to your business.
Following up with costumers gives you the opportunity to know exactly what the consumer thinks about your service or product, what needs to be changed to make it better. On top of that, it also generates in the consumer the feeling that you are not just money-hungry but that you are also concerned with the quality of the service you are offering or products you are selling. And from there, consumers will be more likely to come back and buy from you and eventually become lifetime consumers.
On the other hand, when you don’t follow up, you have no way to find out if the service provided or product sold had fulfilled the costumer needs, and most of the time the costumer will not come back to your site unless to ask for some type of explanation or refund, etc, and as a consequence, you will loose costumers, traffic to your site, and sometimes you will even get sued in some extreme cases.
How to follow-up with costumers? The answer to this question can be found anywhere on the internet or in books, and many of these answers may differ depending on the writer’s point of view. But I will only tell you that it is nothing else than the process of obtaining a feedback from costumers about how they are satisfied with your product or service, if it efficiently meets their needs. This can be done through a phone call, an email, online surveys, feedback forms, etc.
5. They misinterpret the concept of auto-pilot
I’m sure the concept of autopilot doesn’t sound new to you. We all have contacted websites and gotten some type of automatic reply as an example.
Having your business running on autopilot mode is nothing else than having your actions, transactions, etc… taking place automatically.
Lately, it has been more than an easy task to manage a running business online thanks to the autopilot feature. Now it’s possible to make money online even when you are sleeping or better yet, on vacation.
The autopilot feature is of course a good thing considering that it can spare you a lot work since most of them are done automatically and save you a lot of time and money too because it’s faster and you don’t need to pay someone to do this for you.
But, be aware that it also has its bad side and this is what some entrepreneurs seem not to understand yet. It’s never the same thing to talk to a live person than to talk a machine, neither is it to get an email reply from a live representative than receiving a canned response. I’ve personally received some automatic canned responses to questions I have asked to businesses online that really have nothing to do with what I was actually inquiring about. And I can tell you that it’s a really weird feeling that you get out of that. It doesn’t look professional at all.
It’s therefore a MUST to make sure that costumers always get the best out of your service. Costumers’ satisfaction should be the priority.
I’ve witnessed companies loosing costumers because of that.
6. They don’t know when and where to look for advice.
Most people just don’t look for advice until they find themselves stuck in situations where they really feel limited or when they realize that this is one and only option left.
Unfortunately, few are the entrepreneurs who don’t make that mistake.
When it comes to business, this is definitely the correct behavior to have.
One thing which needs to be mentioned here is that: ‘’One of the best ways to learn is by sharing your opinions with others’’. How many times already, you’ve had an idea become clearer after you talk to someone or, after you read a document about it?
So the same goes for the business world, don’t wait until you get into a bad situation to look for help. Your business idea will be quickly converted into success, if it’s clear enough in your head and if you know exactly what people think about it. You will also be able to easily implement your service to meet the needs of public if you welcome suggestions form others
Advices are always somewhere out there waiting for you to go get them, all you need to do is know how and where to look for them.
Remember that: ''What makes a savvy (guru) what he is, is his receptivity and flexibility to accept new ideas, knowledge and suggestions''.
